This is Maya, tell me something.
Or... you can leave,
that's probably better.

The prototype suit is done. My apologies for the wait.

[ He's a little nervous about it because he went a little... overboard. He usually does when he makes new stuff. Starts with sensible practical design and then goes full Rex. ]

Do you like owls?

Good, because it ended up inadvertently owl themed.

Well, you’ll have to change into it and you probably won’t be able to fit much clothing under it. So wherever and whenever you’re comfortable changing suits me.

Acknowledged. I shall see you then.

[ And unless she has more to say before then, she will! He's always a little nervous about entering Lum, in case he bumps into Imelda who he's sure would like to kick him in the teeth sometime.

So he tests out his own prototype. The knock on the door seems to come from nobody at all. Unless someone stares really hard and sees the faintest of shimmers in his shape.

[ Rex (ironically) saw that coming- but he'd still not like to get cornered by an angry woman with very large boots. ]

I don't think a stealth suit you drags like a wedding dress train would be very effective.

[ He pulls down the hood of his version- he's opted for a more traditional cloak, because a) he couldn't get the camouflage to work well with his battle suit's existing magic and b) he will take any excuse to wear a cape. So she's greeted with the sight of a floating head, black fuzz around the edges of visibility. ]

This is yours.

[ He holds out a small black case, peeking out of the cloak. ]

There are some instructions to work through.

A small victory, if that.

[ As he moves, the shimmer is more obvious. The faster, the less effective the camouflage. The cloak isn’t as good as what she’s getting. It ripples and moves a lot more. Once he’s in and door is shut, he turns it off and suddenly it’s just a dark grey cloak.

Opening the case she’s greeted by the mask, first. It’s not overtly an owl mask, but suggests a certain owlish quality with the roundness of the lenses and the ridges around them implying the classic owl head shape, with a space for her nose just a little like a beak. The mask itself has a helmet component, housing the tech for the lenses, but the jaw is free.

The suit beneath is a similar dark grey to his cloak, but mottled slightly- one might think conventional camouflage is redundant on an invisibility suit but what if it fails? It had a hood that can be pulled over the helmet and a collar that can go all the way to just under the nose, so if the mask goes on afterwards her face is completely covered. Gloves and shoes (that are more like rubber soles socks) as separate pieces, to be tucked into thicker wrist and ankle parts that look just a little like the legs of a bird of prey.

Holding it up it might look too small, but it stretches but will be very tight indeed. It’s meant to be. Improves circulation. Less chance of anything getting snagged. He avoids the irredeemable sin of boob socks, but sure hope body issues ain’t a huge deal. Not hiding much in this thing. Under the suit, there’s a few other things. Climbing claws, a bandolier of pouches, a belt for her baton. Probably most important but easy to forget- a bag made of the stealth stuff. For stealing!
]

Do you... like the look?

[ Probably says a lot about how confident he is in the effectiveness that’s his concern. ]

My thought was with the hood raised it shouldn't make a major difference, but wearing it up would be advisable for stealth missions anyway.

[ He had thought that far, at least, but he has a moment of quiet confusion when she makes her request. ]

You mean for armou-

[ Then he spins on a heel when she gets her bra. Oh right. The hint of fluster is not actually because of boobs in and of themselves, because Rex's sex drive is fossilised in the tar pit that is his neglected humanity. Mostly due to messing up. ]

...Yeah, okay. I'll do some research on... support and such, for the next model too.

I also have nipples.

[ Easily in the top ten weirdest things to hear from Rex's deep, gravelly, serious voice that sounds thirty years older than the rest of him. Also, he has one and a half nipples thanks to one of his scars.

He waits for her to let him know it's okay to turn and does so with a slight instinctive flourish of his cloak. He's practised it so much it is muscle memory.
]

It will likely cause some discomfort for a few minutes- but you'll find the tightness will assist your physical performance. It should be flexible enough not to restrict your range of motion if you want to try some stretching before we move on to the other aspects.

[ As he says, it's very elastic. It basically means it's that tight no matter how she moves, but not enough to pull at her limbs.

He does think about looking away for this part as well because... look, basically, the only dog Rex is not is a horndog but even he can see that getting a girl to put on a super form-fitting outfit and stretch could be misinterpreted. Instead, he opts to keep his poker face and treat it exactly as its. Science.

heromedal: (Is that so?)

Yes- that helps prevent the material from producing many ripples during movement, which reduces the effectiveness of the camouflage. As well as improves circulation.

[ He taps his left temple. ]

Just make sure the switch there is in the off position and that the ring around the right eye cannot turn any further to your left.

[ That's the only 'warning' he can think of, but goes into details about the mask, just to be clear. ]

The right lens controls dual eye functions. Fully left is the standard vision. One right is telescopic. Two right is thermal. Three is low light. The left controls single eye functions for that eye. Fully left is no effect, one is...

[ He pops open one of the pouches, pulling out what looks to be wire. About a metre of it, tightly coiled. ]

Camera one, for seeing around corners and under doors. Two is... [ That goes away and is replaced by a small, round camera with a flexible neck and a foot. For sticking to surfaces. ] Camera two, for keeping watch. Three gives you measurements of whatever you're looking at- dimensions and distance from you.

[ He might not have much experience making clothing suitable for women, but masks he knows. There's a soft material on the inside that moulds to her face comfortably. ]

You can pull the collar of the neck up first and it will be held in place-there are thin magnetic points in both. Shouldn't be hard to breathe, but let me know.

[ Which explains why the neck was looser than everywhere else. That and not wanting to choke her. ]

[ Rex has to stop himself from saying ‘cool’ when he sees her in the mask. It looks great on her, he thinks, not complimenting himself for making the thing. He doesn’t know if normal acoustics also apply to her abilities, but the owl inspired shape funnels sounds towards her ears just like the animal itself. ]

No, the suit is the source of the charm. It will spread to the other material when activated.

[ He holds up his right arm and points to the wrist, where she’ll find a snap fastener that doesn’t seem to connect anything to anything else. ]

Undoing that will turn it on. I decided it was best to make it that way around- I’d rather it be easy to accidentally activate than deactivate.

[ It’ll take a few seconds, as first she goes blurry, then wavy and then- gone, aside from what isn’t covered of course. The camouflage has a tiny amount of lag. If she stays still, she’ll be almost entirely invisible. The more and faster she moves, the more the telltale shimmer is visible, like a girl shaped heat haze. A sneaking tiptoe will be fine, a sprint she’ll be a blurry blob. ]

I’ll work on improving the active camouflage reaction time, but for now I thought this will promote good stealth fundamentals anyway.

[ The sound of it is of course his classic well crafted techno, but as it includes some more conventional magic, it’s not entirely synth. A soft, relaxing song similar to his own gentle blues sound. ]

[ It's kind of weird to see her mouth floating around. Thankfully it's not as disturbing as it could be, only visible from the front instead of showing him the inside of her jaw. ]

Two things. First, it will take only a small amount of damage before it fails. About a hole of this size- [ He demonstrates by moving his fingers into a loop, roughly ping-pong ball sized. ] Will shut down the effect. Multiple smaller gashes will accumulate. This is why your hands and feet are separate parts- they seemed most likely to get damaged and if so you can hide them without compromising the rest of the suit. It's quite tearing and piercing resistant, but be careful of getting it caught on protrusions or pressing against rough surfaces.

[ The looped fingers raise to display a two, to illustrate he's onto the next point. ]

It gets hot in there. To keep you from being detected by thermal scans, it doesn't let much heat out at all. It will get hot enough to start malfunctioning before it gets hot enough to harm you- takes four hours and six minutes to start impacting the performance of the camouflage, in the halls here at least. I'm working on a climate control system for it, but for now, if it starts to heat up, finding somewhere out of the way to let it rest is your best option. Not always a bad thing, as it means you can use it in colder conditions comfortably.

[ Concerns done, onto the next cool toy! He pulls the sack from the case. It's a collapsible duffel, with a drawstring for getting it as small as possible when not in use. The second she touches it with an activated part of her suit, it disappears as well. ]

The pouches are for things you bring with you. The bag is for things you're taking home.
